Responsive to a Sense of Place
“In the past my work was mostly figurative and always concerned with death. Now the sea with its never-ending changes of moods, lights and darks influences it. I never tire of looking at the sea, and the lighthouse with its comforting, welcoming light. As a painter responsive to a sense of place, it is fortunate this place is such a beautiful one. Some of the paintings may be beautiful but i’m not apologising for this: as Gemma Tipton said when asked what do we want from our art museums ” I don’t want to be educated; I want to be drowned in beauty….” – Mairin Grant
