Works From Life
“I believe that an artist should express his whole self in his work. The work must be honest; only work that is done with an empathy and understanding of the subject and real feeling for the work, can be of any value. My landscape paintings are more about movement, expression and light, than the actual physicality of a place. What I am trying to say is this is the way this place makes me feel rather than this is what my eyes see. The same can be said of the paintings of animals in the landscape. The human form is an age old subject which can never be exhausted; it has the power to express mood and emotion, both vulnerable and strong at the same time. We are fascinated by our own kind. I like to work from life, making a piece of art then become collaboration between artist and model. Art is more than a “product” it is the vision of the artist and the world he inhabits and also an expression of life, its highs and its lows.” – Paddy Darigan
