BIOGRAPHY

Gerda Teljeur moved to Ireland in 1967 after studying at the Riks Academie and IVKNO [now Rietveld Academie], Amsterdam, and now lives and works in County Wexford, Ireland.

Working primarily in the medium of drawing Gerda Teljeur’s practice focuses on the exploration of objects and things through investigations in line and space. The resulting image is abstract and non-representational, creating a sense of something or capturing an essence. She achieves this through a process typically used by writers, that of freeform writing, whereby a writer writes continuously without any regard to spelling, thought or grammar. It helps them to overcome writers block and can be used to collect initial thoughts and ideas for a written piece. Teljeur’s drawings work in this same manner, creating works that suggest rather than define.

In 2013 she had a major solo exhibition Like Life Itself, which was an installation of 260 Diary Drawings (2010/11/12) at Wexford Arts Centre.

Selected Group exhibitions include PAPER WORKS – Work on paper by artists from Ireland and across the world, Hillsboro Fine Art Gallery (2024) Na Cailleacha with reference to Paula Reg, The Dock Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon.Co Leitrim (2023) Ballinglen Museum of Art, Permanent Collection Exhibition, Ballycastle, Co Mayo (2023) and Bones in the Attic, as a member of Na Cailleacha, Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin (2022).
