BIOGRAPHY

Catherine Jane Ryan was born in Dublin in 1953 where she now lives and works. She studied art at Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design, Dublin and she also holds a Diploma in Theology & Spirituality from the Mater Dei Institute, Dublin. Ryan is a folk artist who makes brightly coloured cityscapes using lost and found objects, collected from different environments in daily life.

Ryan has exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy, RUA RED Arts Centre (gallery and café), Limerick City Gallery of Art, Birr Theatre and Arts Centre, Kinsale Arts Festival and many art centres nationwide. She has exhibited in the Carrickahowley Gallery, UK, and in Maine Irish Heritage Centre, USA, also in Kentucky and New York City. Ryan’s work is held in collections in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Italy, France, Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, Denmark, the USA and Western Asia.
