
Sonja Landweer
BIOGRAPHY
Sonja Landweer (1933-2019) was a Dutch multi-disciplinary artist, who lived and worked in Ireland for much of her life. Initially a ceramicist, she later also became known for her bronze castings with unique patinations, and subtle forms, and painted, and made prints, jewellery and pottery. She evolved a batiked-ceramic technique in the early 1960s, before moving to Ireland and working at the Kilkenny Design Workshops.
Sonja won numerous awards, including the Verzetspris in Holland (1964), the Prix Artistique, Biennale Internationale de Ceramique d’Art. Villauris. France (1974) and the 1992 henerar award from NGAD. Honorar Mantian Gutics Acclaim. World Triennal of Small Geranics. Zagreb (1993), In 1981 Landweer became a member of Aosdána.
She is represented in many private and public collections throughout the world including the Arts Council collection, Textile Museum, The Netherlands, National Museum of Ireland, Ulster Museum, Belfast and numerous private collections nationally and internationally.
