
Leo Higgins
BIOGRAPHY
Leo Higgins (1951-2022) was born in Dublin. He worked as a part-time lecturer at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and was a self-taught sculptor. Higgins was a director of CAST Bronze foundry in Dublin and one of the founding members of the Sculptor’s Society of Ireland, which is now called Visual Arts Ireland. Higgins was the winner of the Oireachtas Prize for Sculpture in 1984 and 1985, and exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Ireland, including at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Solomon Fine Art, Dublin, Wexford Festival Exhibition and Sculpture in Context, Dublin. Large public commissions include ‘Justice’ for the Criminal Courts in Dublin and ‘Riverrun’ for the UNESCO/Dublin City of Literature Library Garden. Higgins’ work can be found in the collections of Irish Life, Memorex Computers, Bank of Ireland, Institute of Chartered Accountants Awards, Superquinn, Finglas, A.I.B, and Aer Rianta, Dublin Airport.
