BIOGRAPHY

Karla Enright is an artist based in Wexford. She graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2005 with a degree in Fine Art Painting and also completed an artist’s residency in Limassol Studios, Cyprus in 2004.

The theme of her work is loosely based on the landscape but it is the sea and the sky that feature most in her paintings. Because she lives close to the coast she is familiar with the shifting nature of its scenery and is inspired to capture its transiency on canvas. Essentially she is attempting to describe the emotion of a sublime landscape in her paintings. To do this she uses layers of colour and a ‘brushed-out’ effect. She mainly works on large canvases to best reflect the formidable nature of the landscape, sea or sky but knows that, like a snapshot, a more diminutive piece can also work to portray this.
