Boolavogue Textile Studio
BIOGRAPHY
Boolavogue Textile Studio evolved through Wexford County Council’s 1998 Summer Fun Youth Arts Festival. The late tapestry artist Joanne Breen ran a tapestry residency for children in July of that year. Many parents of the participating children expressed their interest in weaving and as a result formed a series of adult evening classes, which were facilitated by Joanne.
One of the first works created by the members of the Boolavogue Textile Studio was the Boolavogue Community Tapestry, currently exhibited at St. Cormac’s Church, Boolavogue.
The group received their first commission from the Wexford County Council in 2002. ‘Oystercatchers’ is currently exhibited in Enniscorthy Public Library, Co. Wexford. The Boolavogue Textile Studio is now a successful Community Enterprise, which is funded and supported by Equality for Women Measure European Community Funding.
