BIOGRAPHY

Desmond Shortt is a painter based in Co. Tipperary. He has garnered a reputation for his distinctive fantastical and exuberantly camp pictorial renderings in oil paint. He adds a contemporary twist to the traditions of Rococco and Baroque techniques resulting in an alternative kitschy reality. Shortt’s paintings feature an assortment of strange figures and organisms including Disney-like creatures, fairy princesses and other anthropomorphic beings. He studied at the Limerick College of Art and Design (1987-1991).

Shortt has been the recipient of many awards such as the RHA Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Bursary in 1994 and has undertaken residencies at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Co. Monaghan, the Cill Rialaig Project in Co. Kerry. Shortt has exhibited widely throughout Ireland.
